RECURRENT YEAST INFECTIONS

Susceptibility to yeast infections can be caused by increased stress, pregnancy, diabetes, antibiotics and some birth control pills. Recurrent yeast infections may be from a relapse due to incomplete cure (Stopping medication prematurely); infection with a resistant strain; an alteration in the immune response system due to stress; re-infection from your partner; or infecting ones self from a mouth or rectal infection. Avoid recurrent yeast infections by: using all the medication; seeing your doctor if over the counter preparations don't eliminate the infection; having your partner checked and treated if necessary; practicing scrupulous hygiene; wearing absorbent cotton underwear; eliminating white flour, sugar, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, and dairy products from your diet; decrease stress. Acidophilus taken as a tablet or in yogurt may be beneficial.

Stress has been greatly underestimated in the cause of some illnesses and infections. You may need to find ways to reduce the stress your stress as much as possible by: increasing your physical activity; sharing your concerns with your partner or a friend; recognize there is only so much time in a day; spending time on other activities; and, making a list of the details that need taken care of in the order of importance. You can also strengthen your immune system. Ways to do this include: get plenty of sleep; exercise to help relieve stress and build up activity tolerance; take a good multi-vitamin supplement; follow a healthy diet.
