It's that time of year again. Vacations, long holiday weekends. But-- you're pregnant! Relax. Traveling during pregnancy can be fun and comfortable. The second trimester is the best time to travel, since nausea and fatigue have lessened or ceased.
A few general rules though should be followed:
  • Wear loose, layered clothing and comfortable low-heeled shoes. Remember your body temperature is higher than those around you.
  • Drink at least 1 liter of water for every 2-3 hours in flight to avoid dehydration.
  • Carry your own nutritious snacks.
  • Walk around every two hours to avoid swelling.
  • Place a small pillow under your back to avoid strain.
  • Give your body time to adjust to your new temperature, climate and altitude.
  • Avoid drinking the local water in foreign countries.
  • Always check travel plans with your doctor.
  • Avoid long distance travel after 32-36 weeks.
