| Your care giver may see you at three weeks and six weeks. Your discussions should include the type of Birth Control that is best for you. | ||||||||||||
| EXAMINATION | ||||||||||||
| At your
post-partum examination, you should have your weight, blood pressure, breasts,
and abdomen assessed. A pelvic examination should include a Pap smear and
assessment of whether your reproductive system has returned to normal.
You should discuss the method of birth control you have chosen and, if there are no contra-indications, your doctor should give you a prescription if one is needed. Any questions you have about your body returning to normal, sex, or emotional problems should be discussed at this visit. If you are planning on having more children, you may wish to discuss how long you should wait before getting pregnant again. |

| RETURNING TO WORK | ||||||||||||
| You
may be very torn about returning to work after the baby is born. Leaving
your child can be traumatic for you. Some women only have a six week maternity
leave, while others can take up to six months or more.
The decision of when to return to work, if you have the flexibility to decide, should be made when it is most comfortable for you, but you should also take your partner's feelings into consideration. Not returning could cause undue financial hardship if you decided to return to work before the baby was born and now change your mind. Your partner may also wish you to stay home as long as possible and you wish to return to work. Discussing the subject before the baby is born will help make the decision easier after the baby is born. Your baby will miss you when you return to work. Spend time with the baby when you come home. Chores can wait until after the baby is down for a nap or for the night. You have established quiet Family Time, and you need to continue after you return to work. You also need to have time with your partner. Sometimes you may need to make time. |
