WHAT IS IT?:
Not considered an STD strictly unless passed from partner to partner in a ping-pong fashion.  It is an overgrowth of the yeast (fungi) organisms which are normal in the vagina.
CAUSE:

Candida albicans (fungi) overgrowth.  The cause of the overgrowth can be recent antibiotic usage, diabetes, travel, tight fitting clothes, or a number of things which upset the pH balance in a woman's vaginal organisms.

FIRST APPEARANCE: ???? due to underlying cause.
WOMEN - Itching, burning and vaginal irritation; painful urination; cottage cheese like discharge, irritation
MEN - Itching, burning with urination
TESTS:

Microscopic examination showing hyphae of yeast, culture, titers for chronic sufferers.
TREATMENT:
Antifungal vaginal creams containing miconazole or clotrimazole.  Male partners should be treated if a recurrence happens a short period of time or they exhibit any symptoms.
CURABLE:
Yes.
