Instructions for USING LAM
YOU MUST BE USING BREASTFEEDING EXCLUSIVELY TO FEED YOUR BABY FOR THIS TO WORK
Instructions for Using LAM
  • Eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water (at least eight glasses a day).
  • Breast feed the baby on demand whenever she/he wants to eat (at least 6 - 10 times a day, including at least once each night) on both breasts.
  • Allow no more than six hours between any two breast feedings.
PLEASE NOTE:  You will need another method of birth control if
  • The baby is taking other forms of nutrition (water and juices do not count)
  • Your period returns
  • There is a chance you have been exposed to HIV infection or any other STD
  • Your baby is six months old or older

Breastfeeding is used for your baby's nutrition.  A secondary result is suppression of ovulation.  However, your baby may not want to nurse 6-10 times a day and may want to sleep through the night,  If this is the case, using LAM as a contraceptive will be less effective.
