COPPER T 380A
IUD (ParaGuard®)
PLACEMENT:
-
You may experience cramping
when the IUD is inserted.
-
The physician will swab the
vagina with antiseptic
-
A probe is inserted into the
uterus to measure its length. This length is then set as the marker
on the IUD inserter (a hollow tube containing the folded IUD).
-
The inserter is then put into
the uterus and the IUD, which is folded inside, is pushed through it into
the uterus.
-
You may have some slight cramping
and spotting after insertion.

-
Check for the string several
times the first month and then after each period. You should also
check if you have unusual cramping, bleeding between periods or painful
intercourse.
-
You have birth control immediately
after placement of the IUD.
-
Expect heavier periods than
usual with this type of IUD.
-
Have the Copper T 380A IUD
changed every ten years.
REMOVAL:
The IUD is simply pulled
from the uterus using forceps when you wish it removed. You may have
slight cramping, but there should be no severe pain. Another is placed
immediately.
