Placement:
Check
the diaphragm carefully for tiny cracks, tears and holes BEFORE inserting
it, by holding it up to the light and gently stretching the rubber apart
with your fingers. Be careful of your nails - it's easy to puncture
a hole in the diaphragm with one. You can insert the diaphragm up
to six hours before intercourse.

| Leave the diaphragm
in place at least 6-8 hours after sex. Never leave in place more
than 24 hours.
If intercourse is repeated or occurs more than six hours after insertion, leave the diaphragm in place and insert another application of contraceptive cream, jelly, or foam into the vagina. |

| Care of your Diaphragm:
After each use, wash your diaphragm with mild soap and warm (not hot) water. Dry it with a towel, dust it slightly with cornstarch (not powder), and store it in its case. Diaphragms last about two years but they need to be re-sized after pregnancy, abortion and weight gain or loss of 10 pounds or more. Only use products that are made for use with the diaphragm. Do not use petroleum jelly because this will cause the rubber to disintegrate. For more information on caring for your diaphragm, check here. |
