| Cannot be used by women with liver disease, breast cancer, unexplained uterine bleeding, blood clots. May not be good for women with high blood pressure, gall bladder disease, elevated cholesterol, irregular periods, light periods, headaches, heart disease, seizure disorders. Cannot be used by women who have a history of certain types of high blood pressure, breast cancer, unexplained vaginal bleeding, liver growths, blood clots in veins, meningioma (a type of brain cancer), possible pregnancy. Certain drugs (rifampin and most anti-epilepsy drugs) may reduce the effectiveness of implants. Side effects possible: irregular bleeding, prolonged periods, light periods, hair loss, decreased interest in sex, acne, depression, prolonged time between periods, weight changes, headache. Can test for possible side effects prior to insertion by taking Progestin-only birth control pills. Some implants can be seen and felt. | ||||||||||||||
| HOW TO USE IT: | ||||||||||||||
| 6 match-sized tubes containing progesterone are surgically placed, by a physician, under the skin in the upper arm. | ||||||||||||||
| YOU NEED TO CALL A HEALTH CARE PROVIDER IMMEDIATELY IF: | ||||||||||||||
| You experience any of the following: a heavier period than normal; a prolonged period; a missed period after having regular periods while using the implants; severe abdominal pain; severe headaches; blurred vision; redness, swelling pain or bleeding at the implant site; or pain in the arm or hand after the site wound has healed. | ||||||||||||||
