| HOW IT WORKS: | ||||||||||||||
| Two types are available in the US: a progesterone impregnated IUD (Progestasert®) and a copper T-shaped IUD (ParaGuard®). The IUD may prevent pregnancy by interfering with: sperm movement (the ability of the sperm to fertilize the egg) or implantation (nesting of a fertilized egg into the lining of the uterus). (Now the most widely used method of reversible birth control in the world.) A third type LNgIUD contains a hormone called levonorgestrel. | ||||||||||||||
